There are many reasons for choosing to drive an automatic car, from personal preference or from disabilities and mobility issues. Automatic cars can make driving more accessible for a wider range of drivers. There are many benefits with learning to drive in an automatic; easier to drive, no gear change and overall reduced number of lessons required to drive an automatic car before you are ready to go for your test.

There is a common misconception that driving an automatic car is easier than a manual. While it’s true in respect of there being less gear control, all other aspects of driving a vehicle safely are the same as a manual car.

When a learner begins taking driving lessons, the first thing they are taught is the basics of manoeuvring, as this is the only way to get the car going from one destination to another. There is minimal difference between an automatic and manual car in this respect. However, the bulk of lessons will be how to get from one destination to another with multiple obstacles, safely.

There can be lots of reasons to take refresher driving lessons. It could have been a while since you last drove and you need to refresh your skills, or maybe you’ve just passed but you still feel a little unsure about certain aspects of driving. Perhaps it’s motorway or night driving that makes you a feel a little uneasy, or you just want to give yourself some more confidence and your driving skills a boost.

The value of post-test training is widely accepted as being beneficial throughout the driving industry as something that provides the newly qualified driver with opportunity to further development and hone their skills.

There is also an increasing number of people, who have held a licence for a number of years, that are realising they too would benefit from extra tuition and are taking a refresher course.

Your driving instructor will tailor the course according to your individual needs and can assist you with:

  • Night driving

You might wish to block book 10 hours or more in one booking and register for an intensive course. These lessons are more frequent and are recommended as minimum 2 hour lesson up to maximum of 4 hours in a day to assist with passing your test in a short amount of time. You can opt to book an 8 hour Intensive course if you are looking to re-sit your test soon or perhaps even a 40 hour package for beginners looks to pass quickly.

Intensive Course

Our Intensive driving course is the solution to getting through your driving test quickly. A normal course of lessons can take a very long time to complete, and life hurdles may affect not just your learning, but the pace of the lessons too.

It’s not unusual for a pupil who takes one lesson per week to cease their driving lessons for a period of time, which will greatly extend the time it takes to learn to drive.

Intensive courses can help you to reach test standard within just weeks, rather than many months. In fact, we can teach you to drive from within just 10 days. Perhaps you need to learn to drive for a specific sate and you want to get your licence in time, If so, you can rest assured that we help.

MNG Driving School intensive driving course begins with an 2 hour assessment lesson, there’s no obligation to do the full course. After your initial assessment lesson, if you decide to continue with the full course then we will require a small deposit. We will then go ahead and book the test for you. The course normally consists of 3-4 hour sessions everyday leading up to the test, you do however have the option of spreading the hours out more i.e. 2 hours every day instead. Your instructor is specially trained to give you excellent tuition in all aspects of driving so that you can take your test with confidence.

Intensive lesson packages:
8 Hours (Re-sitting your Test)

The 8-hour package is not far off the most intense package, given the expectation that learners will know how to drive already. If you’re confident and you have a test upcoming, this is ideal. Our instructors take you straight to the advanced steps of driving, be it dual carriageways, roundabouts or even manoeuvres. We advise this package for learners who may have been unsuccessful with previous practical tests or they’re nearing test-day. Give us a call on 07752 750 326 to find if the 8-hour package is suitable for you.

16 Hours (Refine you skills)

The 16-hour package is for relatively intermediate learners, where the expectation is that you have had several lessons already. Whether you’re confident or not, this package is designed to help you get up to speed and test-ready in no time. Our instructors will assess and guide you, ensuring you’re ready for the advanced steps of driving, for dual carriageways, roundabouts and manoeuvres. We advise this package for learners who have had some lessons before and want to speed up their learning progress, from months down to weeks. You can reach out via phone or contact form, if you wish to discuss this package further.

24 Hours (A–Z Course)

The 24-hour intensive package is for new drivers, who may or may not have taken driving lessons prior. The intensive 30-hours will take you from a-z of driving, so there’s no need to be prepared – only a “can do” attitude! The best part of this package is the pace at which you learn; it’s faster and your learning retention is significantly greater. Instead of a lesson per week, you can expect multiple throughout the week, cutting down your lesson duration from months to weeks. This option is highly opted for by pupil wanting a 24 hour fast paced course to pass their driving test.

32 Hours (New Drivers)

The 32-hour intensive package is for new drivers, who may or may not have taken driving lessons prior, just like the 24-hour package. This package facilitates the recommendation of MNG Driving School, of taking a minimum 32 hours of lessons before a test for new drivers. You can expect to be taken from the start to end of driving, leaving no steer unturned – all we ask is for a “can do” attitude. The best part of this package is the pace at which you learn; it’s faster and your learning retention is significantly greater given the frequency of your lessons on a weekly basis. This isn’t ideal for all learners; sometimes regular lessons are preferable. However, there are instances where it’s required e.g., work or family commitments. In such cases, we’re here to help you identify what’s best for you.

40 Hours (DVSA Recommended)

The 40-hour intensive package is for completely new drivers, who may or may not have taken driving lessons prior, just like the 32-hour package. This package facilitates the recommendation from DVSA, of taking 40 hours of lessons before a test.

50 Hours (Complete Beginner)

The 50-hour intensive package is for suited to completely new drivers with no road or car knowledge, who are keen to pass first-time and willing to commit the intense hours. This package facilitates a safer and recommended approach than DVA’s recommendation of taking 40 hours of lessons before a test. You can expect to be taken from the start to end of driving, leaving no steer unturned – all we ask is for a “can do” attitude. The best part of this package is the pace at which you learn; it’s faster and your learning retention is significantly greater given the frequency of your lessons on a weekly basis. This isn’t ideal for all learners, sometimes regular lessons are more preferable. For this course we recommend to start the first 10 hour lessons with a steady pace and then increase the learning as your vehicle, road knowledge and safety skills improve. All pupils are provided with a unique learning schedule based on their own learning abilities. Enquire today to speak with one a member of our team.

Pass Plus is a training course aimed at benefiting newly qualified drivers. The pass plus course builds on your skills and knowledge of driving on today’s busy roads; encouraging to anticipate ahead, plan for and deal with all types of hazards, in turn helping you become a more confident and safe driver.

Understanding the pass plus course

Pass Plus is a course that certifies you as a safe & new qualified driver. It is designed to not only enhances your skills but to guarantee discounts on your insurance which is usually high for new drivers.

Statistics show that new drivers are more likely to have an accident within the first 2 years of passing their driving test than at any another time. This is extremely concerning for your personal safety, but it also inflates the premiums for new drivers. That’s where the Pass Plus course can help you.

The pass plus course is 6 hours long and can be taken in two 3-hour sessions or three 2-hour sessions, whichever suits your needs. This can be arranged with your instructor.

The Pass Plus Scheme includes 6 one-hour modules covering driving:

  • on motorways
  • in towns
  • in all weather conditions
  • for rural roads
  • on dual carriageways
  • at night

All of these modules are covered by our driving school for a fee of £239.

Driving in traffic can be completely different from driving on motorways. At mng Driving school we recommend 2 to 4 hour motorway lessons to train you to drive safely on motorways in all weather conditions.

Should I take a motorway lesson?

Your driving instructor will make sure you have gained the road experience you need, including the ability to control a car at higher speeds, awareness and planning skills and general hazard perception before taking you on a motorway.  You may have had the opportunity to practise these skills on a dual carriageway in preparation for your motorway drive and be ready for this next step in your learning. Your instructor will help you know when you are ready.

Motorway lessons won’t be compulsory and motorway driving won’t be tested on the driving test! Despite there being 2,300 miles of the motorway network, there are many hundreds of miles of the country where many thousands of learner drivers and driving instructors, will not have easy access to a motorway. For this reason, pre-test motorway experience will remain voluntary. Whilst we recommend motorway driving lessons, it is entirely up to the individual. Make sure you feel ready within yourself!

As a provisional licence holder, you will ONLY be allowed to drive on a motorway with a fully qualified driving instructor in a dual controlled vehicle.

What will a motorway lesson involve?
What’s Relevant?

Your instructor will make the lesson relevant to your needs, talking with you about route planning and journey preparation, possibly covering your most likely first motorway drive. For example, the drive to university or a day out with friends to an amusement park or festival.  This will help you plan for factors that may influence your journeys, such as time of day or passengers.

How do you feel?

A motorway driving lesson is a chance to discuss how you may drive differently depending on the weather or visibility.  The topic of tiredness and recognising when your concentration is not 100% and how to then remain safe is also an important one to have, including how to plan for regular breaks and what to do if you begin to feel tired.

Your skill level

It’s likely that even with previous dual carriageway experience until you drive on a motorway you may not have had the option of a lane 3 or even a lane 4! Your instructor will be guiding you in the best way to utilise the extra lanes so you can make safe progress when interacting with other motorway users, particularly when two motorways merge or separate.

Breaking it down

It’s an opportunity to discuss what to do in an emergency or a break down on a motorway, as this can sometimes be a scary thing to experience, particularly if you are unsure what to do.

If you’ve failed a driving test in the past, we are prepared to help you pass (and rather quickly). Our experienced driving instructors will assess your skills during a two-hour lesson in order to establish how to help you reach test standard. Failing a driving test can be tough, but it’s not the end of the road as far as your learning to drive journey goes.

We can guarantee you excel in your test so that you can wave goodbye to your ‘L’ plates once and for all. Whether you’ve failed one, two or several driving tests, you can rest assured that you stand a chance of success in your next one with the help of MNG Driving School. We’ll tailor your lessons to meet your needs, ability and schedule.

We trust that you won’t need many lessons, just enough for us to assess where you are and potential pitfalls in your driving. Your focus should be passing your driving test as soon as possible, so we have driving tests available for you to take much sooner than what is available to the general public.

What is a short notice driving test?

As a registered and qualified driving school, we are able to book driving tests for our current students. The advantage we have is that our driving tests are much sooner than what’s available to the general public – so you can have a driving test next week as opposed to waiting a month or two.

You may be asking if this is open to you, even if you haven’t taken a test. It absolutely is. If you’re keen on passing as soon as possible and don’t want to wait months for your test, simply get in touch with us and we’ll get you a test date much sooner.
